Steam vs Chem

Which is best for me – steam or dry chemical?

Our Truck-mounted Steam Cleaning

We have powerful cleaning equipment that sprays a modest amount of 240 deg water and mild hypoallergenic detergent onto your carpet and then immediately sucks it up with a very strong vacuum. The water and detergent travels to the base of the fibers and the top layer of the backing, but does not soak the backing or padding. The hypoallergenic detergent leaves no odor and is best for those concerned about chemical exposure and allergies.

Steam cleaning is also called deep cleaning, and it removes at least 97% of dirt and bacteria from carpeting. It is the best method for removing deep soil and stains. Because it cleans so deeply, it removes dust mite feces.  The glycopproteins in dust mite feces are a major cause of allergies. The water temperature is high enough to also kill the dust mites themselves.

Dry Chemical Cleaning

The case for chemical cleaning is made here: Chem-Dry vs Steam Cleaning. Please note the following:

·         Bubbles do not “explode” dirt.

·         No claim is made that Chem-Dry kills mites.

·         While home rental steam cleaners and inept operators can indeed leave an excessive amount of water in your carpet, we are highly skilled and have powerful equipment, so your carpets will be left nearly dry.

·         While the lesser amount of water that Chem-Dry uses could be an advantage in cool, damp climates, that advantage is irrelevant in Arizona.

The Bottom Line

You are better off using a professional, highly experienced steam cleaner. Home rental units will leave too much water in your carpets and the water is not hot enough to kill dust mites.  Inexperienced operators may leave too much water in your carpets. Dry chemical cleaning has not been proven to kill dust mites, but steam cleaning has.
